New Research Webinar Series to Spotlight Health Innovation in Cumbria

A brand-new webinar series is launching this month bringing leading medical research directly to the people of Cumbria, with a strong focus on health innovation and community impact.

The PCSM Research Hub is proud to present the first session of the CumbriaMed Research Webinar Series on Thursday 26 June 2025, from 12:30 to 13:30, hosted live on Zoom.

This webinar series follows announcements in March and May of new funding opportunities for health research at the Pears Cumbria School of Medicine (PCSM) and University of Cumbria. The Research Hub is a University of Cumbria collaboration with Imperial College London and the NHS in Cumbria. It aims to support research led by nurses, midwives, allied health professionals, healthcare scientists, pharmacists, clinical psychologists or clinicians with research that directly benefits NHS patients.

The webinar series is designed to connect expert researchers, clinicians, students, the public, patients and families in a shared conversation about the future of healthcare. Each session will feature leading speakers and a live Q&A, offering attendees an opportunity to engage with the latest research findings and their real-world implications. Topics will include obesity treatments, sleep health, robotic surgery and atrial fibrillation.

The first webinar will focus on Prostate Cancer following World Prostate Cancer Day, featuring:

  • Professor Hashim Ahmed, Chair of Urology at Imperial College London – speaking on the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Professor Ahmed is internationally recognised for his pioneering work in reducing side effects and improving outcomes in prostate cancer treatment.
  • Ms. Kathie Wong, Consultant Urologist at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust – discussing the Treatment of prostate cancer. Ms. Wong specialises in minimally invasive therapies and personalised care plans for prostate and urinary health.

Webinar 26 June

According to Prostate Cancer UK, one in eight men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime and around 510,000 men are living with or after with the disease. This webinar aims to empower people with knowledge that could save lives through early diagnosis and informed treatment choices.
